Winemaker Notes

This super-Tuscan style is a blend of 28% Cabernet Sauvignon from TR Passalacqua Vineyard and 72% Sangiovese from Saini Farm, both in Dry Creek Valley. Its name, Radici della Famiglia, means "roots of the family"; the Sangiovese is a nod to Jason's Italian heritage and the Cabernet Sauvignon to Noelle's French heritage.

This second vintage of Radici, called Due, shows succulent, jammy mixed berry fruit with an emphasis on strawberry and blackberry. The oak is toasty and buttery with a touch of vanillin. The mouthfeel is rich with the sweetness of oak, and the fruit is intense with a smooth, light middle. This unique combination of fruit flavors from the Sangiovese and refined tannins from the Cabernet creates a versatility that makes Radici della Famiglia a natural to serve anytime, from hors d'oeuvres through main courses.

Other Notes

All of the grapes for our coveted Cabernets, including the Cabernet in this blend, come from TR Passalacqua Ranch. These prized 17-year-old vines are located on the western slope of Dry Creek Valley at a 400-foot elevation. The quality of the fruit comes not only from the exceptional terrain of the vineyard, but also from meticulous farming practices. We grow balanced vines, using bunch thinning and limited irrigation to ensure the highest quality fruit, and dropping fruit to promote even ripening. Finally, picking only the slowly ripened morning side of each vine gives our winemaker the perfect grape. Read more about our Cabernet Vineyards.
